WHY

The UK’s Fire and Rescue services are a critical safety net for their communities with powerful alignment to ICE’s own mission.

Merseyside Fire and Rescue service (MFRS) wanted to focus on Culture in this Senior Leaders’ transformation programme.

Culture is a vital enabler to performance and service delivery. It supports a resilient, confident workforce who are equipped to do what they joined up for: to serve in Fire Prevention, Protection and Incident Response.

MFRS are committed to serving their communities, often on their worst days. ICE in turn were proud to have a chance to serve them.

HOW

ICE delivered a blended learning solution for MFRS Senior Leaders, comprising:

5 Group Sessions
3 Action Learning Sets
1:1 Coaching
Individual Project Work

We used Narrative Creation with Graphic Scribing to visualise the current culture, delving into how it feels when they are performing ‘at their best’.

The insight harnessed energy and formed anchor points for discussion based on lived experience.

The sessions came alive with new learning, discussion and debate – resulting in deeper relationships, appreciation and alignment to organisational goals – working where it matters: at the heart of their Culture.

WHAT

The senior leader cohort were able to share awareness and learn about the wider organisational picture for MFRS.

Working with colleagues, participants were able to look at challenges with fresh eyes, using ICE methodologies to overcome cultural blockers and define new success factors.

Each participant delivered an improvement project with executive sponsorship to improve aspects of the MFRS culture.

A fresh awareness and understanding of what culture is, how it impacts day to day operations and how to drive culture with power and purpose.
